EXPO LEEDS - Presented by Sound And Music and MAAP

Just had some confirmation today that Sound Journeys has made the shortlist for the Expo festival that will be held in Leeds this September.  Fingers crossed it will be selected.

Watch this space for more info about where and when.

"Expo is the hub and playground of the experimental music and sound art scene in the UK and beyond. Free and open, the event mobilises a national network of artists and engages with communities from all backgrounds – placing sonic art and the people who make it in direct contact with the public. Expo steps out from traditional venues and into spaces that lie at the heart of the community - inspiring practitioners and the public to reconsider their environments."

Lisbon is fast approaching...

With the Silent Voices: Forbidden Lives FIRT-IFTR 2009 conference fast approaching Helen and I have been in the studio recording and documenting our project - Dreaming the Silence.

The piece experiments with various tones taken from different sized wine glasses when they were half full with water.  The sounds produced have been fused together to attempt to produce the sounds of tinnitus - a persistent problem Helen knows all about.

New Project: New Location

I am very excited about the potential of my next project which will hopefully take place in a very interesting space outdoors...

I am sure there will be many challenges along the way but hopefully it will be fun to explore installation work in the great outdoors.

Silence: A one day Symposium - Tuesday 23rd June 2009

A one day interdiciplinary symposium at the University of Chester where there will be a mixture of paper presentations and installations.

In the Museum of Lost Sounds will be performed alongside a PaR presentation by Helen Newall and myself in answer to a call of work about silence.

“The speaker in Samuel Beckett’s The Unnameable sets as its goal the attainment of a ‘real silence’; a silence which escapes representation altogether. However, it could be said that this quest is doomed from the beginning, because silence is an integral part of the process of representation in a number of art forms; in other words, it could be said that, in a number of disciplines and in a number of ways, silence speaks as expressively as any other means of representation.”

Silent Voices: Forbidden Lives - 13-18th July 2009

Just received notification that Helen and I will be attending and presenting at the Silent Voices: Forbidden Lives FIRT-IFTR 2009 Practice as Research International conference in Portugal.  Helen and I will soon be making our way over to Lisbon to present and participate in the workshop and conference that promises to be an unbelievable experience.

A new sound/installation piece is in the process of being constructed for this so watch this space...

More info to follow.
